Moon company receives environmental award
Tuesday, May 30, 2006

A company based in Moon has received the Governor's Award for Environmental Excellence for saving $800,000 in energy costs at its Ambridge plant.

Centria, a company that produces metal roofing and siding, among other products, installed a new oven system in Ambridge that features state-of-the-art heat exchangers to rapidly dry painted steel coils. That made it possible to capture emissions of volatile organic compounds produced by drying paint and pump them into an incinerator to produce fuel.

The process reduced the amount of natural gas needed to operate the plant.

Centria's Ambridge plant provides coil coating services to a growing list of industries, including automotive, transportation and building and industrial trades and heating, ventilation and air conditioner services.

The company, one of 12 to receive the award this year from a pool of 78 candidates, will receive a plaque and flag to mark its accomplishments.
