Friday, May 26, 2006

William Brice Bishop, president of Bishop Metals and an avid skydiver, died at his Bethel Park home Monday of liver disease. He was 48.

Mr. Bishop grew up in Whitehall. After graduating from Baldwin High School and the University of Pittsburgh, he joined the Mount Oliver sheet metal fabrication business started by his father, Arthur Bishop.

Janet Bishop of Whitehall said her brother pursued his love of skydiving throughout the United States and Europe, going so far as to skydive over the Alps. He also liked to scuba dive.

"He traveled the world. He absolutely loved that," she said.

Mr. Bishop was cremated and his ashes will be dropped from a plane, Ms. Bishop said.

Mr. Bishop is survived by three other sisters, Kathleen Delaney of Voorhees, N.J., Sally Schubert of Columbus, Ohio, and Betsy Schoedel of Finleyville.

Visitation and a memorial service will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. tomorrow at John F. Slater Funeral Home, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Family Hospice & Palliative Care, 50 Moffett St., Pittsburgh 15243 or The Salvation Army, 424 Third Ave., Pittsburgh 15219.
