South Butler
A ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled today for a new playground at South Butler Intermediate Elementary School.
The 9:10 a.m. ceremony is to officially open the playground and end the school's $66,000 project to provide fourth- and fifth-graders with a new playground surface and new play equipment.
The project was primarily funded by the school's Parent-Teacher Organization and the community. The district and pupils at the intermediate elementary school and at South Butler Primary School collected $12,000 in a Change for the Playground two-week coin drive.
School Principal Thomas Tibbott, district Superintendent Patrick O'Toole and PTO President Nelda Burd are scheduled to attend the ceremony. A plaque to commemorate the gift of the new playground will be presented, and the fifth-grade band will perform.
