You can see "The Da Vinci Code" tonight for free, courtesy of the Discovery Christian Church that meets in Cranberry.
In a move that is costing roughly $4,500, the church has bought all of the tickets for today's 7 and 8:45 p.m. shows at Carmike's Cranberry 8 theater. "We want people to enjoy the movie, no strings attached," Toney Salva, the church's senior pastor, says.
Customers will be given cards telling them that the church has paid for their tickets, Salva said yesterday.
"Our hope is that the movie will cause people to explore the questions they may have about God and the church. We believe God wants us to question what we believe and hold onto what is true."
Moviegoers should understand that the theater has the movie on two screens, starting at noon and including late-night shows Fridays and Saturdays. The church is only paying for the 7 and 8:45 p.m. screenings today, and seating obviously is limited by auditorium size.
The interdenominational church, which meets Sundays at 9 and 10:30 a.m. at the Regional Learning Alliance in Cranberry, also sponsored free showings of "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe" and "The Passion of the Christ."
It will examine some of the hot-button questions raised by the Dan Brown novel and movie, rated PG-13, at its services. Go to www.discovertogether.com for more information.
