Michelle Wie, who made it through the first round of qualifying for the men's U.S. Open, has received a special exemption to compete in the U.S. Women's Open: Just think, the 16-year-old female sensation could become the first person to perform in two Opens in the same year since NBC announcer Johnny Miller.

The Hawaiian Supreme Court upheld a lower-court ruling to dismiss a lawsuit brought by a golfer who was accidentally hit in the eye by an errant shot, saying there wouldn't be much "sport" in the "sport of golf" if balls went exactly where the player wanted: I'm guessing the chief justice is a hunter or stock-car driver on the side.

Lorena Ochoa was second again in the LPGA Tour's Michelob Ultra, the fourth time in her past five starts she has finished in second place: She has been a runner-up more times than Meg Ryan for best actress.

New legislation in Scotland allows pedestrians to have "public access" on the country's 540 golf courses, meaning they can walk down fairways or cross greens on their way home: That's like allowing joggers to use the middle lane of the Parkway North.

The Golf Merapi Club, which sits at the base of Mount Merapi in Indonesia, is empty as the volcano for which the club is named continues to erupt: Just letting you know in case the tee sheet at your club is full.
