Pennsylvania Legislature

The Pennsylvania Legislature was not in session this week, so no votes were recorded.
Congress

Both the U.S. House and U.S. Senate agreed this week to extend the tax cuts on dividends and capital gains, which were advanced by President Bush in 2003. The $70 billion House-Senate deal will also temporarily prevent an increase in the number of Americans impacted by the Alternative Minimum Tax. But the tax package was harshly criticized by most Democrats in both chambers. An Urban Institute-Brookings Institution Tax Policy Center showed that those making less than $30,000 a year would save $10 or less, while those making more than $1 million would save more than $42,000. The House and Senate packages were identical.
