Tripp Rudolph, an Upper St. Clair High School graduate who is a freshman on the Juniata College men's track team, had one of the team's top performances of the year at the recent Shippensburg Invitational.
He finished second in the 800-meter run (1:55.38), which established a school record in the event. The time bested his previous best in the event by more than three seconds, and broke a record that was set in 1992.
Rudolph ran nearly a second faster than the previous record.
Contributing at John Carroll
John Carroll University's women's tennis team had its best season ever at 22-1 and won the Ohio Athletic Conference championship and one district woman contributed to the success of the NCAA Division III program from suburban Cleveland.
Kate Leckenby, a senior from Mt. Lebanon, started in both singles and doubles for the Blue Streaks.
Perfect day for Mackey
Brentwood graduate Jason Mackey, a senior catcher at Westminster College, was 3 for 3 with a solo home run and two runs scored in a 6-5 win against Thomas More College on Saturday.
Bethel grad slams foe
The Washington & Jefferson College softball team captured its first Presidents' Athletic Conference championship on Saturday with a 5-3 win over top seed Thomas More College.
Freshman right fielder Kelly Morrow, a Bethel Park High School graduate, helped lift the team to victory with a grand slam late in the game, her first collegiate home run.
As a freshman, Morrow started 33 games, posting a .330 batting average (13th in the PAC) and a .418 slugging percentage.
Central grad nets success
Jonathan Skoner, a Central Catholic High School graduate and Forest Hills resident, had quite a freshman season on the Juniata College men's tennis squad.
He made an immediate impact, compiling a 14-4 record in singles action at the No. 2 spot. Skoner also saw doubles action in 11 matches on the season and earned a solid 7-4 mark, including two conference victories.
His 21 overall victories ranked second on the season for Juniata.
OLSH grad earns PAC honor
Waynesburg College sophomore Haley Hinds, a Moon resident and Our Lady of the Sacred Heart High School graduate, earned All-Presidents' Athletic Conference honors, finishing second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 12:45.60 at the recent conference championships.
