Profile of the Week


Robert Draper

•  Job: Coordinator and associate professor of mechanical engineering technology at Point Park University; Lead instructor of Point Park's Summer in the City Engineering and Technology Camp, a summer camp for high school students

•  Age: 69

•  Ambitions: To continue working for as long as possible and to continue bringing new ideas to Point Park, like the Summer in the City Engineering and Technology Camp, which my colleagues and I designed.

•  First job: Engineering and machinist apprentice, age 15, in the United Kingdom

•  Hardest job: Building a factory for solid oxide fuel cells in Churchill, although it was also one of the most stimulating experiences I have had

•  Biggest work challenge ever: Building the fuel cell factory 10 years ago on a budget of approximately $30 million.

•  Away from work I: Love soccer and modern jazz.

•  Dream vacation: Attending the Grand Prix of Monaco.

•  Favorite book: "Pride and Prejudice" by Jane Austen.

•  If I won the lottery, I'd: Make sure all of my friends and family were comfortable and then continue to work.

Terry McMillen, survey manager, McMillen Engineering, was elected as the president of the Laurel Highlands chapter of the Pennsylvania Society of Land Surveyors.

Dodi Walker Gross, partner, Reed Smith LLP, was named one of eight new members on the 21-member Internal Revenue Service Advisory Committee on Tax-Exempt and Government Entities (ACT). ACT is a formal body of external stakeholders who provide input on administrative policy and procedures in the specialized areas of employee retirement plans, exempt organizations, tax-exempt bonds and federal, state, local and Indian tribal governments.

Dr. Clara M. Spatafore of Sewickley was elected secretary of the American Association of Endodontists during its Annual Session, held in Honolulu.

Maria E. Chick was promoted to assistant vice president, mortgage originations department, Dollar Bank.

Houston Harbaugh, announced the election of James H. Webster to director and shareholder. He concentrates in public and private finance and business transactions.

Eckert Seamans Cherin and Mellott announced that attorneys William P. Breen Jr. and Elizabeth M. Simon have joined the Boston office. Mr. Breen is a member in the Litigation Division, focusing his practice on business, product liability and civil rights litigation matters; Ms. Simon is an associate in the Business Division, where she focuses on representing high-tech and emerging growth companies, including private placements, mergers and acquisitions, and corporate governance issues.

Kolbrener Inc. hired Lauren Fries as account manager.

Jason Yeakle, graphic designer, joined the creative team at Vision Marketing Group.

Variety the Children's Charity of Pittsburgh appointed Michele R. Atkins, director of external relations, Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh Foundation and Richard C. Davis, station manager for UPN Pittsburgh, WNPA-TV, to its board.

Jeff Letwin, managing partner, Schnader Harrison Segal & Lewis, was named chair of the board of directors of the Greater Pittsburgh Convention & Visitors Bureau.
