Howard Hanna has moved up one spot, to Nos. 5 and 7, on two rankings of the 500 largest brokers in the United States by the real estate industry journal Real Trends.
The fifth-place ranking is based on the number of closed sales transactions combined with settlement services the company generated in 2005. Hanna was ranked seventh nationally for closed transactions only and 19th in sales volume.
Helen Hanna Casey, president of Howard Hanna Real Estate services, said acquisitions and expansion in Harrisburg and Ohio have helped the company move up in the standings over the past few years. But the numbers also indicate buyers and sellers' preference for a "one-stop" realty company that also provides financing and settlement services, she said. About 60 percent of Hanna's customers choose the full range of services.
"They want the whole package done for them. They want a real estate company for life."
Ms. Casey also noted Hanna's many partnerships with local corporations, nonprofits and senior centers, through which it offers relocation services and seminars on buying, selling and moving.
