Notable college quarterbacks who changed positions to play in the NFL:

Freddie Solomon
QB: University of Tampa

WR: Dolphins/49ers

Note: Played in the NFL from 1975-85 and caught 371 passes for 5,846 yards and 48 TDs.


Rex Kern
QB: Ohio State

DB: Colts/Bills

Note: Led Ohio State to the 1968 national championship. Played as a defensive back in the NFL from '71-74.

Jack Mildren

QB: Oklahoma

DB: Colts/Patriots

Note: Ran the wishbone offense at Oklahoma that averaged 472.4 rushing yards per game in 1971. Played in the NFL from '72-74.


Kordell Stewart
QB: Colorado

QB/WR: Steelers/Bears/Ravens

Note: Spent first two seasons with the Steelers as a receiver before taking over QB in 1997. Played in the NFL from '95-02 as a signal-caller.


Hines Ward
WR/QB: Georgia

WR: Steelers

Note: The Super Bowl XL MVP played mostly WR at Georgia, but, in his sophomore season, threw for 872 yards while completing 60.7% of his passes.


Antwaan Randle El
QB: Indiana

WR: Steelers/Redskins

Note: Is the only player in NCAA history to pass for 40 TDs and run for 40 TDs. Threw the go-ahead touchdown for the Steelers in Super Bowl XL.


Matt Jones
QB: Arkansas

WR: Jaguars
