PSU & the draft
Tuesday, April 25, 2006

Penn State beat writer Chico Harlan's picks as candidates for the NFL draft:

Pos......Player.....Ht/Wt

DE.....Tamba Hali.....6-2/263.....Skinny: On-field play was more impressive than his workouts; will be selected within the first two rounds.

WR.....Ethan Kilmer.....6-0/204.....Skinny: Special teams ace is guaranteed to get a look, but raw wideout skills will hurt.

S.....Calvin Lowry.....5-11/197.....Skinny: Solid, if unspectacular, defensive back who earns high marks for reliability.

CB.....Anwar Phillips.....5-11/190.....Skinny: Penchant for allowing big plays worries some, but should be a mid-round pick.

QB.....Michael Robinson.....6-1/219.....Skinny: Wants to play quarterback, but knows his best chance will come at running back; a mid-round pick with plenty of potential.

CB.....Alan Zemaitis.....6-1/196.....Skinny: Recently ran a 4.58 40 (slow for a cornerback), but natural coverage instincts make him a likely first-day selection.

DE.....Lavon Chisley.....6-5/257.....Skinny: Missed his senior year because of academics, but raw athleticism might prompt free-agent interest.

TE.....Isaac Smolko.....6-4/246.....Skinny: Must improve as a pass-catcher and a blocker to make an NFL team.

S.....Chris Harrell.....6-0/208.....Skinny: Speed is a concern, but tackling ability gives him a chance as a second-day pick.

DT.....Scott Paxson.....6-4/292.....Skinny: Recently dismissed sexual assault charges interrupted his preparation, but Paxson will draw looks for his run-stuffing ability

G.....Tyler Reed.....6-4/315.....Skinny: Will get a look as a late-round pick because of his impressive postseason workouts.

DE.....Matt Rice.....6-4/270.....Skinny: Lacks explosive ability of teammate Hali, but still a solid prospect.
