Obituary: Charles H. Mars / Businessman with passion for jazz

Charles H. "Chuck" Mars, a successful businessman and local jazz drummer, died Thursday at his home in Mt. Lebanon. He was 79.

Mr. Mars grew up in Mt. Lebanon and graduated from Mt. Lebanon High School.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, spending most of his time in Florida.

After his discharge, Mr. Mars returned to Pittsburgh and attended the University of Pittsburgh.

After working for James T. Pitcairn Inc. and Wyatt Inc., Mr. Mars founded Partition Systems Inc. in 1979, then sold the company in 1999. During those years, Mr. Mars was involved in many business organizations, including the Producers Council and Pittsburgh Builders Exchange.

Mr. Mars also enjoyed playing the drums and sharing his love for jazz music. He was a member of the Pittsburgh Musicians Union in the 1940s.

Mr. Mars is survived by two daughters, Sandy Mars of Philadelphia and Linda Mars of Mt. Lebanon.

At Mr. Mars' request, there will be no visitation or service.
