Commission to give out Preservation Awards May 5

Pittsburgh's Historic Review Commission will hold its 23rd Annual Preservation Awards ceremony at noon on May 5 in City Council Chambers, fifth floor, City-County Building.

The winning owners and architects are:

Annie O'Neill, Post-Gazette photographer, and Nancy Andrews, for facade restoration of 502 W. North Ave., Mexican War Streets. The work was based on the design of the mirror-image house next door. Architect: Pfaffmann + Associates.

Little Sisters of the Poor and the Catholic Institute of Pittsburgh, for renovation of their chapel and altar at 1028 Benton Ave., Brighton Heights. Architect: A. Sheldon Goettel, Perfido Weiskopf Architects, with Janice Held.

Antonio Pereria, for renovation of 2224 E. Carson St. into Ibiza Wine & Tapas Bar, South Side. Architect: Strada: John A. Martine; Alan J. Cuteri and Thomas Price.

Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens, for a new entrance that complements the 19th-century Oakland glasshouse. Architect: Mike Marcu, principal-in-charge, IKM Inc.

City of Pittsburgh, for a new fountain and other entrance features at Highland Park. Landscape architect: Patricia O'Donnell, Heritage Landscapes.

The Union Project, for interior renovation of a historic church at 801 Negley Ave. into a gathering place that borders East Liberty and Highland Park. Architect: Michael Eversmeyer, Eversmeyer Design Associates.

Catholic Institute of Pittsburgh; Diocese of Pittsburgh, for restoration of the 900-seat auditorium at Central Catholic High School, Oakland, including cleaning the red brick, herringbone-patterned walls and restoring painted surfaces. Architect: Joseph Chaffin, Desmone & Associates.

Wylie Holdings, L.P., for fa?ade restoration at 3801 Penn Ave., Lawrenceville, including brick masonry and window restoration. Architect: Jill Flannery Joyce, Joyce Design Group.

Wylie Holdings, L.P., for restoration of commercial and residential building at 4400 Butler St., Lawrenceville. Architect: Jill Flannery Joyce, Joyce Design Group.

Wylie Holdings, L.P., for restoration of a long-abandoned commercial building at 4901 Penn Ave., Garfield.
