Taylor probably will stay with Steelers
Cornerback has until today to sign with another team

Cornerback Ike Taylor has until 4 p.m. today to sign as a restricted free agent with another team but has no prospects and, in all likelihood, will play for the Steelers at least one more season.

Taylor has drawn some interest from other NFL clubs but not enough to visit any of them. A big reason is the fact the Steelers tendered him a one-year contract for $1.57 million. Another team would have to forfeit a first-round draft choice to sign him, and that has been done only once in the past 13 years in the NFL.

The Steelers also would have a week to match any offer sheet Taylor might sign, which means another team would have to offer him a large enough contract for the Steelers not to match.

Special teams ace Sean Morey is the Steelers' only other restricted free agent and he is expected to return to the team.

If Taylor and/or Morey do not sign longer-term deals with the Steelers they would become unrestricted free agents in 2007. Taylor plans to return Sunday from Orlando, Fla., where he has worked out the past 3 1/2 months, and join his teammates at workouts on the South Side next week.

"Ike has been preparing for this upcoming season since four days after the Super Bowl," agent Scott Smith said. "I spoke with [personal trainer] Tom Shaw yesterday and he said he's in the best shape of his life, and the best shape of any athlete he's trained. Ike was running with Olympic sprinters yesterday and held his own. He's excited to get back into Pittsburgh and work with his teammates."
