A bird? A plane? It's Versace

NEW YORK -- Versace is taking the marriage of fashion and decor to new heights.

The company announced that it will collaborate with Tag Group SA, a Swiss aviation company, on the interior design for private jets, such as the Bombardier Global Express or Boeing BBJ.

A photo of the prototype shows an entirely black and white cabin, with white leather chairs, black carpeting and shag accent pillows. Individual customers, however, can work with Versace designers on the personalization of the interiors of their aircraft.

The first interiors will be presented at a British air show this summer.

Versace claims to be the first fashion house to launch a complete home collection and the first to open a branded hotel. The next Palazzo Versace is planned for Dubai in the United Arab Emirates, with a tentative opening date of 2008.

The resort, which aims to represent the lifestyle of the late Gianni Versace, who loved classical architecture, will have more than 200 suites, temperature-controlled beaches and "swimming pools" that are home to an array of sea life for guests' diving experiences.

Boys' ties

NEW YORK -- Like mother, like son. Eleven-year-old Christopher Merrill, of Long Island, N.Y., wanted to contribute to the Bone Marrow Foundation that his mother founded. He decided to raise money by designing and selling ties.

That's how Town Togs was born. (Christopher does indeed wear a tie each school day as part of his uniform.)

The brand's dragonfly-motif ties were worn by members of the New Amsterdam Boys Choir during Cynthia Rowley's runway show during February's New York Fashion Week. Other popular designs feature Labrador retrievers, basketballs, Vespas and guitars.

While the ties are made specifically for boys, a few of the motifs are available in larger sizes for men. There also are zipper ties for younger boys, so they -- and their mothers -- don't have to worry about the knots.
