What he did: Brennan guided Bishop Canevin to its best season since it joined the WPIAL in the 1970s. The Crusaders won their first section championship and had an impressive postseason run, making it to the WPIAL Class AA championship for the first time. Along the way, underdog Bishop Canevin knocked off Jeannette in the quarterfinals and defending WPIAL champion Beaver Falls in the semifinals. Bishop Canevin lost to Aliquippa, 57-52, in the title game. Brennan, 39, guided Bishop Canevin to a 26-5 record and the Crusaders enjoyed postseason success despite not having second-leading scorer Rich Eberlein, who was injured in late January. Brennan, Bishop Canevin?s coach for two seasons, resigned last week in order to spend more time with his family. He previously coached Montour for four seasons and his overall record was 122-48 (.718 percentage).
Favorite food: I would say any fast food - pizza, hamburgers. It doesn?t matter.
Favorite TV show: I?m going to go with ?American Chopper.?
Best thing about coaching: Watching the kids mature as the season goes on. Then at the end of the year, you have five coaches on the floor instead of five players. You realize you don?t need to be there any more.
Worst part about coaching: Not being able to play all the kids on your roster. I feel every kid on the team deserves as much credit as the MVP. Do you know how hard it is to practice every day without getting recognition from fans and without getting on the floor to play?
Are there any coaches you modeled yourself after? Probably not. I played for [former Pitt coach] Paul Evans when he was at Navy, so I?m sure I got a little bit of discipline from him. But I would say my coaching is a little bit of all the coaches I had from eighth grade on up.
People might be surprised to know that you ... ? There are a lot of things. They would be surprised to know I love to work on car engines. I watch Grey?s Anatomy. I used to have a motorcycle. I cry every single time I talk about my seniors at a sports banquet.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years: Hopefully coaching my own kids. My kids will be getting older, so hopefully I?ll get back into it and coach them.
