Pitt sophomore guard Ronald Ramon is scheduled to have surgery today at UPMC South Side Hospital for a torn labrum in his left shoulder.
Ramon, whose shoulder was injured in the Big East tournament last month, is expected to be out 3-6 months. He should be ready for the start of the 2006-07 season.
This injury is separate from the right shoulder injury that hampered him throughout much of his freshman season. The surgery today will be the second in 12 months for Ramon, who had torn ligaments in his right thumb repaired last year.
The latest injury did not appear to hinder Ramon's performance in the NCAA tournament.
He was 6 for 6 from the field and scored 16 points in a first-round victory against Kent State and was 3 for 9 from the field and had eight points in the second-round loss to Bradley.
