The Post-Gazette reviews movies from a family perspective:
"Take the Lead"
Rated: PG-13 for thematic material, language and some violence.
Best for: Teens and up.
What you should know: The fact-based film is based on a former ballroom dancer (played by Antonio Banderas) who volunteers to teach dance in the New York public school system. He at first clashes with students such as Rock (Rob Brown), who feels the tug of gangs and other influences, but they eventually bond and mesh their styles into a new dance form.
Language: Mild obscenities sprinkled throughout.
Sexual situations and nudity: A student's mother is a prostitute, who is seen with a john, who later makes advances on the student. There are student couples, but almost all of the sexual tension is on the dance floor and in the nature of the dance.
Violence/scary situations: The movie begins with Rock smashing his principal's car with an iron pipe. A female student is threatened by a lecherous man. A menacing gang and its member periodically try to lure Rock into criminal activity.
Alcohol and drug use: None.
