Three Somerset County youths were arrested after disturbing activities at two Boswell churches Sunday.
The youths went into St. Andrew's Lutheran Church around 9:30 a.m., wearing clothing with satanic symbols and holding "satanic bibles," according to state police Sgt. Anthony DeLuca.
They yelled profanities at that congregation, then went to All Saints Church located two blocks away. At All Saints, the teenagers interrupted a group of 7- to 12-year-olds waiting for confession.
"They basically asked [the children] why they believe in God and the kids were scared of them," Sgt. DeLuca said.
Sgt. DeLuca, a member of All Saints, was arriving at church and quickly arrested the three youths.
The teenagers were identified as a 14-year-old from Stoystown, a 15-year-old from Acosta and a 17-year-old from Somerset who is a student in Somerset's school district. One attends a cyber school and the third is a high school dropout.
The Rev. Justin Ratajczak of All Saints was in the confessional during the incident. "I wish I would have known that they were in church because I certainly would have tried my best to help that they wouldn't scare the children," Father Ratajczak said.
Both Father Ratajczak and Pastor Larry Hoover of St. Andrew's said this kind of behavior was unheard of in their small community.
The juveniles were charged yesterday with harassment, stalking and disorderly conduct.
