A minister pleaded guilty to bank fraud yesterday in federal court. Roy E. Smith, 32, was charged with one count last month.
According to the prosecution, Mr. Smith obtained bank loans for his Church of Dominion, formerly located in McKeesport, by submitting false financial information to five different banks. In all, he obtained eight loans, totalling $824,000, to acquire church facilities in Greensburg between September 2004 and September 2005.
The banks lost about $200,000, and the loans have gone into default. Mr. Smith, who was released on bond, will be sentenced Aug. 11 before U.S. District Judge Joy Flowers Conti.
