A $2.3 million improvement project is under way at the intersection of Rochester Road and Route 19 in Cranberry.
The contractor is to widen the intersection; add right-turn lanes on Rochester Road and southbound Route 19; add a left-turn lane to northbound Route 19; resurface from the intersection north to Unionville Road; and upgrade drainage, traffic signals and guardrails.
The official start to the project was yesterday, part of a joint effort between the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and Cranberry. Besides contributing $1.5 million to construction, the township funded design, right-of-way and utility costs.
Because of high traffic volumes in the area, restrictions are to occur mostly at night through summer.
PennDOT advised drivers to expect delays.
