Obituary: Leonard Douglas Lowman / Longtime businessman on the North Side

Leonard Douglas Lowman, a longtime North Side businessman, died Saturday at Allegheny General Hospital, following a long illness. He was 79.

Mr. Lowman was born July 6, 1926 in the Hill District. He worked for the Pittsburgh Sanitation Department before he started his own businesses.

For more than 20 years, he operated numerous bars and restaurants, including K & S Lounge, Singers Place, and Page II on the North Side. He also owned various real estate properties until he retired in the 1990s.

Mr. Lowman enjoyed watching sporting events, and he and his wife Lois traveled extensively, including trips to New York City, where they enjoyed watching Broadway plays. He was a member of Solid Rock Church of God.

Besides his wife, Lois Brazil-Lowman of Pittsburgh, Mr. Lowman is survived by four daughters, Lynetta Lowman and Rosalind N. Williams, both of Pittsburgh, Margaret Crawley, of Detroit, and Tawanda W. Johnson, of Ellicott City, Md.; two sons, Dwane Crawley, of Pittsburgh, and Nathaniel Crawley, of State College, Centre County; and 16 grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at Solid Rock Church of God, 1400 Buena Vista St., North Side. The funeral will be at 1 p.m. tomorrow at Solid Rock Church. Burial will be in Highwood Cemetery.
