How the montage was created

Post-Gazette staff photographer John Beale set out Super Bowl week to put a face on the fervor that drives the Steelers Nation. In six days, John traveled to rallies in Pittsburgh and Greensburg, and photographed people, signs and even pets showing off their Steelers pride. By the day after the Steelers victory in Detroit, he had accumulated about 1,000 photos.

More than 700 of those images were cropped, toned and entered into a computer program designed the montage. The Vince Lombardi Trophy, the overlay for the montage, was photographed at the Steelers office. Kurt Weber, photo operations manager, helped with the design of this project.
