Got "Milk?" The Steel Valley boys' team should be gratified that it does. Robert Todd has been among the cream of the crop in WPIAL Class AAA.
Todd, a 6-foot-1 senior guard/forward, is averaging 18.8 points and 11 rebounds per game. He has been a standout for the Ironmen (13-8, 8-5), who are tied with West Mifflin for the fourth and final playoff berth in Section 4-AAA.
"Milk" should have been overflowing with pride Tuesday, as he scored 20 in a 67-58 win at Keystone Oaks. That pushed him over 1,000 points -- 1,016 to be exact.
That also enabled Steel Valley to keep pace with West Mifflin (12-10, 8-5). Tomorrow will be the last night of section play, and both have tests at home: the Titans will face Thomas Jefferson (14-8, 9-4), Steel Valley will take on Elizabeth Forward (20-3, 12-1).
If West Mifflin and Steel Valley end up tied, both will go to the playoffs because they split two games.
The Ironmen, who started three sophomores Tuesday, have had a good season largely because "Milk" has been difficult to bottle up.
"That nickname dates from when he was little," said Steel Valley coach Shawn McCallister. "That was one of the only things he would drink while growing up."
Todd's play has inspired Steel Valley students to fashion an oversized cardboard replica of a carton, painted white with the words "We Got Milk."
Skimming over the Steel Valley scorebook, one would note that Todd has hit double figures in points in 20 of 21 games. His high was 35 in a win against South Park.
"He is a very athletic kid with a lot of heart," McCallister said. "Robert gets a lot of points in transition. He's a quick kid who creates turnovers and slashes well to the basket."

Color the Colts dark
A boys' playoff dark horse? The Chartiers Valley Colts -- pun intended.
Since losing by 15 at home to Ringgold (9-13, 4-9), the Colts (15-7, 9-4) have played at a peak. They've won five in a row, four on the road, including a 72-58 decision Tuesday at Trinity to remain tied for third with Upper St. Clair (17-5, 9-4).
Four of those vanquished opponents -- Canon-McMillan, Peters Township, Sewickley Academy and Trinity -- have losing records. But the Colts won each of those games decisively, and were downright impressive Jan. 31 when they cantered into the Mt. Lebanon gym and prevailed, 62-48.
Four weeks earlier, Lebo won by 30 at Char Valley.
Coach Tim McConnell's team is small and young, but quick, disciplined and unselfish. It used its strengths to stick a pitchfork in the Blue Devils, and just about everyone else recently.
Char Valley could be a factor in the WPIAL tournament later this month, and should be next season when it drops to Class AAA. McConnell's first eight players will be returning.
Tube City milestones
One city, two girls' teams, two milestones, one milestone in waiting.
Amy Johns, 5-10 senior guard/forward for McKeesport Area, became the 33rd girl in WPIAL history to top 2,000 career points. She did so last Thursday, while scoring 32 in a 63-57 win at Plum. She has 2,050 heading into her scholastic finale tonight at Baldwin.
Johns has committed to Xavier.
Serra girls' coach Bill Cleary is three victories shy of 400, and could get there Monday, the last night of the regular season. The Eagles (18-2, 6-1) will close their Section 3-A schedule tonight against Clairton, then play South Fayette at home Saturday and Canon-McMillan away Monday. Cleary is 397-98 in 19 seasons at Serra.
One of Cleary's players, Laura Grimm, is bearing down on a school record. Grimm, a 5-6 senior guard, is just 50 points shy of the 1,790 career standard established by Jody Sabo, class of 2001.
Short follows
Danny Holzer will be seeking his 200th coaching victory tomorrow when his Upper St. Clair boys' team buses to Mt. Lebanon. Holzer's record is 199-89 in 11 years.
Megan O'Keefe's marvelous junior season hit a peak Monday, when she scored 36 in Seton-LaSalle's 82-75 win against South Park.
