Sports talk host Mark Madden underwent a surgical procedure and was "resting well" yesterday, two days after he suffered a heart attack.
Dennis Begley, president and general manager for ESPN/WEAE-AM (1250) Pittsburgh, confirmed that Mr. Madden, 44, became ill while coaching in a dekhockey tournament Saturday evening in Reading, Pa. The radio host and former Post-Gazette columnist drove himself to Reading Hospital and Medical Center after feeling nauseated throughout the day.
"We talked to him. He sounded in good spirits," Mr. Begley said, adding that Mr. Madden hopes to return to work in a matter of days. He added that he didn't know if Mr. Madden would make it to Detroit for the station's Super Bowl coverage.
