An update

John Beale, Post-Gazette
Steelers songs are a Pittsburgh tradition. In 1998, Catherine Beveridge, 97, danced to a Steelers fight song with Coversa Ashley at Senior Care Plaza in McKeesport.

As Super Sunday approaches, the Steelers songs keep rolling into the Post-Gazette.

The Del Sinchak polka band sent in "Pittsburgh's on the Road to Detroit City," a pop-flavored tune based on the song "Detroit City" by Dills and Tillis. The Steelers-specific lyrics were penned by Gary Rhamy and Del Sinchak. Samples of Steelers songs from the past are also available at the Peppermint Productions Web site.

Readers suggested listening "The Steelers Anthem," a song with lyrics by rapper ManicD, recorded over a catchy audio track by Sapient and posted on myspace.com.

Tim Hoffman from Boston linked us to an '80s disco rendition of "We Are the Steelers," artist unknown.

Phil Kim sent in a recording of "Steeler Nation," a song that evokes a little Pittsburgh nostalgia and combines it with home team pride so "you know our time has come, we're gonna win one for the thumb."

Self-described "party king," Mike Feingold Co. in the Strip District, is well stocked with Steelers memorabilia, including CDs of Roger Wood's tail-gate classic "Here We Go!" Managers of some Giant Eagle supermarkets have also stocked limited quantities of homegrown fan songs.

Several Pittsburgh radio stations have posted Steelers songs on their Web sites. Paul Carosi of Radio Free Pittsburgh sent links to a Steelers Nation podcast available on Yahoo Podcasts, Podcastpickle or at iTunes (requires iTunes and Quicktime software downloads if you don't already have them).

For non-technogeeks who just want a CD, Charlie Godart and his Legendary Polka Band will hand deliver (for a price) a CD of their new Myron Cope tribute song, "Myron's Double Yoi Polka," plus 19 additional black-and-gold classics including "Red Zone Inferno," "The Randle El-lectric Slide" and "Hey Yinz Guys, Pittsburgh's Going to the Super Bowl." Call Godart at 724-417-0274 or 1-888-928-3218.

Other fan favorites include the "Pittsburgh Steelers Polka" by Jimmy Psihoulis, "Steelers Fight Song" by the Royal Rooters, "Steelers Rock! (Steelers Roll)" by the Corned Beef & Curry Band, "Rock 'n' Roll Steelers" by Billy Nardozi and "Go Steelers" by Kardaz, sung to the tune of "Ghostbusters" and updated, again, to include current team members.

There are even karaoke versions of "Go Steelers" and "Steelers Rock!"

In the sing-along track for "Go Steelers," Kardaz plays the music, and fans supply the voices in what band member David Muehlbauer calls a "do-it-yourself Steelers song."
