People on the Move

Profile of the Week

Emily Renner

•  Job: Urban District vice president, YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh

•  Age: 30

•  Ambitions: I'd like to be a YMCA CEO someday, earn a master's degree in nonprofit management, and have a wonderful family with lots of kids.

•  First job: McDonald's in Dickinson, N.D., when I was 14.

•  Hardest job/why?: When I was a Head Start teacher, with kids three- to five-years-old. I was never able to spend as much time with each individually as I wanted to.

•  Biggest work challenge: Aside from my new job -- while at Iowa State, two friends and I, all with loads of experience at McDonalds's, drew up a business plan, got a small business loan, and started a quick service restaurant called Jordan's. It sold Chicago-style hot dogs, Italian beef, and similar foods. We ran it for four years and sold it when we graduated.

•  Favorite Stock/Mutual Fund: General Mills and Sirius Satellite Radio.

•  Away From Work I: love anything related to art, and have been having a great time exploring the museums here. Also, just about any music but country.

•  Dream Vacation: Egypt.

•  Favorite Book: Anything by Toni Morrison. I also liked "The Da Vinci Code."

•  If I won the Lottery: I'd give lots of money to the YMCA, to my family and friends, and then go on a permanent vacation.
