Parting ways:
It was a match made in advertising heaven -- the NFL's manly audience and erectile dysfunction drug Levitra. But the relationship will peter out in March. The NFL and Levitra have opted to bench their three-year-old sponsorship deal when it expires. Brian McCarthy, a spokesman for the politically correct NFL, said the league chose to end the relationship because "the ads shifted from men's health to a performance, lifestyle issue." The change in advertising strategy made the NFL uncomfortable, McCarthy said.
McCarthy said the NFL wouldn't seek another sponsor from the erectile dysfunction category, although the companies could still advertise the drugs during games.
Make-up call:
New York Giants coach Tom Coughlin and running back Tiki Barber appear to have resolved their differences over remarks Barber made following Sunday's NFC wild-card game loss to Carolina. Barber said after the game that the Giants were outcoached by Carolina's John Fox. Coughlin was clearly displeased with the comments, and expressed that yesterday after taking the unusual step of calling Barber in to look at game films of the 23-0 loss.
