People on the move

Profile of the Week

Len Brush

•  Job: CIO and vice president, information technology services, Access Data Corp.

•  Age: Between 1 and 100

•  Ambitions: Working 'til the greater of the two ages above. Feeling the floor beneath my feet when I get out of bed in the morning. Being a better person tomorrow than I am today. Living long enough to share in the joy of my granddaughter's liver transplant

•  First job: Bagging groceries in a supermarket at 65 cents an hour ( You may need help to figure out how long ago that was. A hint: At 4 percent inflation per year, that would be about $10.40 per hour today.) No wonder I was living so high, way back then.

•  Hardest career job/why?: Helping to develop and test military weapons. Even though I tried to ignore it, those weapons would eventually kill people.

•  Hardest life job/why?: Being a father of five. I was 23 when our first was born and I knew absolutely nothing about being a parent.

•  Biggest work challenge ever: Upgrading all my skills, over and over again. Like Samson, every time my skills became long and full, some "Delilah" would come along and cut them and me down.

•  Favorite stock/mutual fund: The stocks that my wife owns. And I am really partial to my TIAA-CREF portfolio.

•  Away from work I: Spend all my time with my bride of many years and some fair amount of time movie-going with my bride.

•  Dream vacation: Finishing my quest to see baseball games in every major league ballpark in the U.S and Canada.

•  Favorite book(s): "Huckleberry Finn," "In Cold Blood" and "The Greatest Generation."

•  If I won the Lottery, I'd: Give it to my two favorite charities: (1) My loving bride, Elizabeth; and (2) the many victims of Katrina.
