A preliminary hearing for the former McKeesport funeral director accused of storing the remains of fetuses and babies in his garage has been rescheduled to 1:30 p.m. Feb. 6.
District Judge Thomas Brletic agreed to the district attorney's office's request to postpone the hearing for Robert B. Winston Jr. because two key prosecution witnesses were unable to testify at the originally scheduled hearing earlier this month.
In August, Allegheny County police said they discovered more than 300 bodies of babies and fetuses in boxes in Mr. Winston's garage. From 1999 to 2002, Mr. Winston's business, Newman-Winston Memorial Chapel, was under contract with Magee-Womens Hospital to dispose of the remains in a "respectful and dignified manner," which included cremating them. He earned about $9,000 for his services.
He is free on bond.
