The Pittsburgh zoning board of adjustment yesterday postponed until Jan. 5 Paradise Development Corp.'s request for a variance and special exception in the development of a Walgreens at Braddock and Penn avenues in Point Breeze.
Attorney Arnold Horovitz, who represents the newly formed Greater Park Place Neighborhood Association, requested the continuance at the morning hearing. About 25 people from the association turned out.
The group favors a Walgreens on commercially zoned land only. But Paradise has bought three homes it plans to raze to build a driveway, said Brandon Miles, the project manager. Many residents call it an underhanded effort to essentially chip away at residential.
The Walgreens itself would sit on a commercially zoned lot, which is now a gas station. The developer made its request for variance and special exceptions to add a landscaped parking buffer and two drive-through lanes.
