Attack Theatre has received a 2006-07 National Dance Project grant to tour its latest production, "Games of Steel." The grant, part of a program administered by the New England Foundation for the Arts, and made possible by the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation and the Ford Foundation, has previously been awarded to such Pittsburgh Dance Council touring productions as this season's Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Company and Jose Limon Dance Company.
Attack Theatre joins 10 other groups, including Alonzo King's LINES Ballet and Sydney Dance Company, on this year's list of companies from the United States, The Netherlands and Australia.
"It is such an honor to be recognized at the national level for our work," said artistic director Peter Kope, who founded the company with his wife and artistic director, Michele de la Reza, in 1995. "We have established a strong reputation in Pittsburgh, but to be recognized in the same group as some of the other recipients is a real validation of our work."
