Tuesday, November 29, 2005

Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh was selected by best-selling mystery author James Patterson and The Time Warner Book Group as a James Patterson PageTurner Award national recipient.

The library, awarded a $1,000 grant for its annual Summer Reading Extravaganza, was one of 34 winners chosen from among 1,500 applicants.

Patterson, best known for his Alex Cross series ("Kiss the Girls," "Along Came a Spider" and the new release "Mary, Mary") debuted the award earlier this year to support organizations who create new book lovers.

Other winners include Litquake in San Francisco, The Chris Webber Foundation in Detroit and merit winner Oprah Winfrey.

"It's about libraries, book sellers, individuals and charitable groups that just bring a lot of attention to the joy of reading," Patterson said in a press release. "Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh's Summer Reading Extravaganza does a great job above and beyond the call of duty in terms of spreading the joy."
