James Lundie, a former McKeesport police chief, died Friday of heart disease complications at UPMC Presbyterian. He was 69.
Chief Lundie grew up in McKeesport and went to McKeesport High School. After graduating, he attended Arizona State University before returning to McKeesport to join the police department where he worked for 20 years until his retirement in 1986.
Chief Lundie graduated from the Pennsylvania State Police Academy and the FBI Academy in Quantico, Va.
From 1980 to 1986, he served as chief of police in McKeesport. After he retired from the department, he worked as a security inspector at the Bettis Atomic Power Laboratory in West Mifflin.
Chief Lundie was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 91. He was also a member of the Western Pennsylvania Chiefs of Police Association and the Allegheny County Chiefs of Police Association.
He is survived by his wife, Gail Hickman Lundie; two daughters, Laurie Cuddy of Huntersville, N.C., and Marion Jones of McKeesport; and two sons, Joseph Lundie of North Huntingdon and James Lundie of McKeesport.
Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. tomorrow at Jaycox-Jaworski Funeral Home, 2703 O'Neil Blvd., McKeesport. Services will be held Wednesday in the chapel of the funeral home at 11 a.m.
