A Swank Party ... and the week in review
"Luke Swank, Modernist Photographer" opened with A Swank Party Friday when the Carnegie Museum of Art crafted its annual Founder-Patrons Preview Gala around the work of the Johnstown-born photographer. Some of Pittsburgh's best-known photographers including Clyde Hare, Pam Bryan, Skip Allen and Aaronel de Roy Gruber attended the black-tie affair, which began with cocktails in the foyer and a private viewing of the important, impressive show.
Guest curator Howard Bossen of the Kresge Art Museum in East Lansing, Mich., and former Carnegie curator Linda Batis organized the exhibition, which aims to restore the reputation Swank enjoyed before his untimely death in 1944.
