www.purcellcountycouncil.com

Background: Extensive legislative, executive and administrative experience. As a former Ross Township commissioner (1978-1998) and a successful small-business owner for 14 years, I bring invaluable legislative, executive and administrative experience to County Council. As a Ross commissioner I participated in creating thousands of jobs and building a strong tax base through controlled commercial development that has kept our taxes low even to this day.

Statement: I will immediately move to pass legislation that takes the assessment process away from County Council and the chief executive and turns it over to the elected controller and place professional qualified assessors back out in the field to fairly assess our homes. I will also move to eliminate gun crime, duplicative government services and work with our chief executive to bring jobs and economic opportunity back to Allegheny County and Western Pennsylvania.

Statement: Cut property taxes and reduce property assessments. Allow taxpayers to vote against tax increases by putting them on a referendum. Eliminate wasteful government spending and consolidate services. Revitalize our region by growing and attracting new industries. I worked against raising property taxes and helped create 20,000 jobs for our region.

Background: B.A., Indiana University of Pennsylvania, 1993; J.D., Duquesne University, 1997; attorney, partner in Weisel, Xides & Foerster. A county councilman since May 18, 2005, and have introduced legislation to improve the assessment system and raise revenue from other sources other than taxpayers.

Statement: I will fight against wasteful government projects such as the North Shore Connector tunnel. The risks of cost overruns on this project are substantial and unpredictable. It is ridiculous to pay $500 million or more for an unnecessary tunnel, especially when the Port Authority is in dire need of money.
