Construction around the region: 10/30/05
Sunday, October 30, 2005
SPECIAL NOTES

PennDOT "Agility Program" -- PennDOT officials want more municipalities and organizations to participate in the program that shares resources by trading services, such as patching potholes on a local road in exchange for the municipality mowing grass in the median of a state-owned road. The scenario has benefited more than 2,000 local governments and other partners, and saved taxpayers $11 million in the past nine years. Interested parties are to contact PennDOT engineering offices.

PENNSYLVANIA TURNPIKE

Entire toll road -- Two lanes in each direction maintained in long-term construc- tion sites, but lanes are narrowed, bounded by concrete barriers. Traffic updates at 1-800-331-3414 or www.paturnpike.com.

Findlay Connector/Route 60 -- Traffic on Route 60 South from Beaver County and Flaugherty Run Road unable to use the exit ramp to Midfield Terminal. Detour to the next interchange (McClaren Road) and loop back to Route 60 north to the airport entrance.

INTERSTATES

I-79, Allegheny County -- New northbound lanes open for winter. The $93 million project will resume in the spring when the southbound lanes will be rebuilt from Crafton to Bridgeville. Web site: www.penndot11.com.

Parkway West, Robinson -- Settlers Cabin interchange opened on Friday.

STATE HIGHWAYS

Route 8, Etna-Shaler -- Northbound lanes closed, traffic shifted to the southbound lanes, one lane in each direction. Excavation at "Mae West Bend."

Route 22, Indiana County -- Widening Penn View Mountain sec- tion, Route 119 interchange to Mount Tabor Church.

Route 22, Westmoreland County -- Cozy Inn Bridge to Route 66, Delmont, one lane each direction during two-year reconstruction. Temporary signals being installed at the Mellon-Manor intersection.

Route 885, Hazelwood-South Oakland -- Daytime lane closures this weekend while workers locate underground utility lines in connection with preliminary design for the northern section of the Mon-Fayette Expressway.

OTHER ROADS

Main Street Viaduct, Butler -- Two northbound lanes of the new bridge and a sidewalk were to have opened yesterday, slightly ahead of schedule. The two southbound lanes are to be done next fall. All four lanes of Route 8 will tie in south of Roosevelt Boulevard with new signals. The $23 million project began in June 2004.

Tri-Boro Expressway -- Intermittent lane restrictions through Nov. 30 while PennDOT inspects bridge over Norfolk Southern Railways, Union Railroad and Turtle Creek.

MAJOR BRIDGES

McKees Rocks Bridge -- Lane restrictions, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. weekdays through Nov. 18, while crews repair sidewalks.
