New Business/New Offices
Sky Bank announced the opening of its new Mt. Lebanon financial center located at 327 Cochran Road. The facility features two drive-thru lanes, locked depository box, a full teller line and, unique to other locations, a lobby featuring a community wall, discovery center and coffee bar. The new office will observe extended grand opening hours until the end of December. Hours are Monday and Tuesday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Wednesday and Thursday, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m; Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Saturday, 9 a.m. to Noon.

Michael Baker Corp. has formed an operating unit, Baker Consulting Services Group, which will provide advice on technology, financing and general feasibility to the clients of Baker's engineering and energy units. William E. Begley, former president and chief executive officer of Stone and Webster Management Consultants Inc., will head the new unit.
Sheetz, Inc. announced the opening of its newest concept store at 111 East Main St., Monongahela. The new Sheetz location, 4,600-square-feet, offers customers a fun, high-energy restaurant-style atmosphere.
Contracts
Olson Industries, designer and supplier of industrial furnaces, was selected to supply a new high temperature Car Bottom Forging Furnace for a large roll manufacturer in Southwest Pennsylvania. The furnace will be equipped with high efficiency regenerative (self recuperated ) burners to reduce fuel usage. The furnace will be automated and tied into a plant wide computer control system provided by Olson 3 years ago. The car bottom design will handle large forgings weighing over 300,000 lbs. The furnace will be fabricated and assembled at Olson's shop facility in McKees Rocks, Pa. The furnace is scheduled to be installed and commissioned in December, 2005.
PDG Environmental, Inc., received a number of contracts valued in excess of $5.0 million in the aggregate. PDGE's Los Angeles Office has been awarded a $1.75 million contract for asbestos and lead paint abatement at the historic Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles, California. PDGE's Flagship division was awarded a $1.5 million contract for restoration of a facility in Florida damaged by last year's Hurricane Charlie. PDGE's New York Office has been awarded a $1.1 million contract to perform asbestos removal at a high school in northern New Jersey and a $.3 million contract for asbestos abatement at an industrial site in New Jersey. PDGE's South Carolina Office was awarded a $.4 million project for lead and asbestos abatement at a transportation museum in North Carolina.
American Bridge Co. was awarded a general contract by the US Army Corps of Engineers for construction of two new bridges over the Tennessee River just below the Kentucky Lake Lock & Dam. The contract is valued at $88.6M and will be complete in February 2010.
Partners For Performance Consulting, www.partnersforperformanceconsulting.com, was awarded a contract with Family Eyecare of NEPA to enhance profitability and customer service for this Optometry Practice in Honesdale, PA. Optometrist Jeffrey Becker has signed on with Partners For Performance to assist in this process.
Grants/loans
ASSET (Achieving Student Success through Excellence in Teaching) Inc. received a $3,000 grant from the Dominion Foundation in support of ASSET's Environmental Education Program. This funding will help support the new ASSET Environment and Ecology Toolbox Series, a collection of standards-based lessons, thematic field study units, materials and teachers manuals.
Junior Achievement of Southwest Pennsylvania received a $15,000 grant from the MetLife Foundation After-School Fund to support Junior Achievement's after school partnership with YouthPlaces. YouthPlaces is a non-profit organization that provides at-risk youth with safe places to play and learn life skills
The NeuroFibromatosis Clinics Association, Inc. (NFCA) was awarded a $5,000 grant from the Equitable Resources Foundation to support it's Ann Kramer Education Fund, providing assistance for children with NF-related learning disabilities. YWCA Greater Pittsburgh received a $30,000 grant from the American Express Foundation's Economic Independence Fund to promote financial education in the community. The money will be used to expand the number of Financial Empowerment Workshops offered to the greater Pittsburgh community.
Offered in partnership with American Express Co., Ameriprise Financial (formerly named American Express Financial Advisors), and the National Endowment for Financial Education (NEFE), the Economic Independence Fund provided $1 million in funding this year to 35 community organizations in 21 states and the District of Columbia.

The Pittsburgh Sections of the Industry Applications and Power Engineering Societies of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers have received international awards for being the best large chapters in the world, 2005.
Next Level Purchasing, Inc., a provider of online training for purchasing professionals, named the Duquesne University Chrysler Corporation Small Business Development Center (SBDC) its 2005 "Local Supplier of the Year."
Granite City Works of United States Steel Corp. has earned Ford Motor Co.'s Bulk Materials Q1 quality certification. To achieve certification, GraniteCity Works had to demonstrate excellence in four critical areas: capable systems (QS-9000 and ISO 14001 certification), ongoing performance, continuous improvement and customer satisfaction.
Brent Clark, general manager, Performance Results Corp., earned the designation of Project Management Professional.
Thomas M. Thompson, shareholder, Buchanan Ingersoll, was recently honored at an American Bar Association luncheon as one of the co-chairs of the committee authoring a new book on the M&A process called "The M & A Process: A Practical Guide for the Business Lawyer." The book, available through the Bar Association, is a 358-page guide to the deal process for the new lawyer doing his or her first deal and as a resource for other deal lawyers on the M&A process.

The Afterschool Alliance reappointed Alana S. Kulesa, youth programs manager, Children's Museum of Pittsburgh, to be a 2005-2006 Afterschool Ambassador, renewing her Ambassadorship for a second year. She is one of just 16 local leaders from 14 states selected for the honor, and one of just three Ambassadors to be reappointed. Each of the 16 Ambassadors directs, works for, or provides support to a local afterschool program, and will continue that work while also serving a second Ambassador term organizing public events, communicating with policy makers, and building support for afterschool programs.
Helium Networks announced that the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC), recognized as the 'most wired' organization in the health field according to the annual survey by InformationWeek has selected the Wireless Recon site survey audit and design system. UPMC is utilizing Wireless Recon technology in the deployment and management of a wireless network that supports its new pharmacy application for bedside medication administration.
Verizon Wireless was named to Working Mother magazine's "100 Best Companies for Working Mothers" list for the fifth consecutive year. The company was recognized for its commitment to providing employees with work/life programs that help foster healthy moms, healthy babies and healthy families.
