Ed Bouchette's Short Snaps: 10/23/05
Sunday, October 23, 2005

Steelers cornerback Ike Taylor does an oddball move when the moment strikes him on the field after a good play. He waves his hand in front of his face and shakes his head. He calls it the "Face Me Ike Dot Com" and, yes, it's named after his Web site, www.facemeike.com.

The New Orleans Saints announced this spring they would sign Jim Haslett to a two-year contract extension. It never happened. Haslett's contract runs out after the 2006 season, and it might be time for both of them to part ways. Haslett was fined $20,000 for ripping the officials Sunday.

Nothing's gone right for Dom Capers in Houston. He made changes in the Texans' offensive line for their game against Seattle. Their linemen were called for nine penalties against the Seahawks. Left tackle Chester Pitts, who moved from guard, lined up wrong on the second and third plays of the game and was called for illegal formation. Winless Houston lost, 42-10.

Dennis Green is turning angry with Arizona's 1-4 start: "I think they need a coach that will put the damn foot on the throttle and hit it hard." Maybe that's why the Cardinals look like a car wreck.

Maybe Dick Vermeil had it right. He gave his team off the entire week before their scheduled Sunday off, Oct. 9. The other teams off that weekend practiced some: The Raiders, Giants and Vikings. All those teams lost Sunday on their return to play while the Chiefs won.

The Eagles have thrown 72.9 percent of the time this season.

What's going on with three-time Pro Bowl linebacker LaVar Arrington in Washington? He did not play a down on defense for the second game in a row and he's not injured. He played on two punt returns Sunday.

The Lions play in Cleveland for the first time since 2001, when they benched Charlie Batch and started Ty Detmer at quarterback. The Browns intercepted seven Detmer passes.

Quoting 'em

Donovan McNabb, Eagles quarterback, on how his sports hernia limits him: "Well, I'm not able to do Pilates. And my Tae-Bo tapes have been put away. I can't really work on my six-pack. But at least I wear a shirt every day so people don't know what's going on under here."
