Florida QB Chris Leak's injured right shoulder could be more severe than he's willing to admit. Leak received another cortisone shot in his shoulder before throwing for a career-low 107 yards in a 21-17 loss at LSU Saturday, offensive coordinator Dan Mullen said yesterday.
Leak, a junior, sustained a bruised shoulder Oct. 1 at Alabama and needed a painkilling injection before taking the field the following week against Mississippi State. After struggling both games, coach Urban Meyer disclosed the injury.
Connecticut
The Huskies will suit up their third starting quarterback of the season Saturday when freshmen Dennis Brown makes his collegiate debut against Rutgers. Coach Randy Edsall said that Brown, a freshman, will start in place of D.J. Hernandez, who is out with a broken left wrist.
Alabama
Alabama backup quarterback John Parker Wilson was arrested and charged with driving under the influence. Wilson was arrested early Sunday and posted bond in Northport, Ala., Police said Wilson was not involved in an accident.
Miami
The Hurricanes fired defensive line coach Greg Mark, a surprising development for a team with the nation's top-ranked defense.
Coach Larry Coker said, "This is a private, in-house matter and I will have no further comment."
Mark, 38, was a former Hurricanes players. He was an All-American in 1989 after recording 15 1/2 sacks to help win the school's third national title.
