One burglary suspect nabbed after morning chase
Wednesday, October 05, 2005

A fleet-footed burglary suspect was arrested this afternoon in North Huntingdon after hours of dodging tracking dogs, helicopters, and a five-agency police dragnet.

One or two other suspects are still on the lam. None is considered dangerous.

The chase began in North Huntingdon, Westmoreland County early this morning, and at 9 a.m. Norwin School District buildings were locked down when one of the suspects was spotted near the high school campus. The search ranged westward to the Allegheny County line, but officers would not say where the man was arrested, or who he is.

Police in North Huntingdon, Irwin, White Oak, and North Versailles have been looking for daring burglars they say recently broke into several area homes while the occupants slept. They would not confirm if this morning's chase involved suspects in those crimes.

The man arrested was not identified. The search is expected to continue through the afternoon.
