WTAE, Wendy Bell win at regional Emmys

WTAE was the big winner among Pittsburgh stations competing in the Mid-Atlantic chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, and Emmy showered love on Channel 4 anchor/reporter Wendy Bell, in particular.

Bell won individual achievement awards for best news anchor and best informational reporting. She was also the face and voice of two stories that won awards.

Bell's "Hill District Trash" report (photographed by Eric Hinnebusch, edited by Michael Lazorko) won for best service news feature and her "Airfare Secrets" (photographed by Ralph Bell, edited by Lazorko) won for informational news feature.

WTAE also won for spot news for its extended coverage of a manhunt (reported by Jon Greiner, Jake Ploeger and Michelle Wright, executive-produced by Timothy Wells, produced by Maria Dravecky).

WQED won awards for cultural program for "It's the Neighborhoods..." (produced by Rick Sebak, edited by Kevin Conrad) and youth program for the "Teens On Q" pilot (executive produced by Karen Farmer White, produced by Marlene Gary Hogan, Gina Catanzarite and Laura Seliy and edited by Frank Caloiero).

FSN-Pittsburgh took home an award for live sports coverage of a one-time only special, "WPIAL AA Football Championships" (executive produced by Paul Kosuth, produced by Roger Lenhart, directed by Mat Williams and Todd Harbaugh).

Going into Saturday night's Emmy ceremony in Philadelphia, WTAE had 14 nominations, WQED received 11 nods, KDKA had four, Fox Sports Net Pittsburgh had three and WPXI had two nominations.
