Jerry Schmitt's celebration was short-lived. After a 23-12 victory against Robert Morris last week in his coaching debut at Duquesne, he quickly turned his attention to the next opponent, Fordham.
"It doesn't get any easier," said Schmitt, whose Dukes (1-0) play host to Fordham (0-1) at 1 p.m. today at Rooney Field. "But you don't want it to get easier."

Fordham is out of Duquesne's league because the Rams have more advantages -- money, assistant coaches and facilities -- as a member of the Patriot League than the Dukes in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference.
Although the Dukes are ranked No. 2 in The Sports Network NCAA Division I-AA mid-major poll, they have to be considered an underdog against the tough Rams, who are lumped with the 1-AA schools that give athletic scholarships. Duquesne offers financial aid based on need.
Fordham was picked to finish fourth in the eight-team Patriot League by a preseason vote of the coaches. Duquesne, winner of 33 consecutive games against MAAC opponents, is favored to capture its seventh consecutive league championship.
"They're going to have some size advantages and their depth is better than ours," Schmitt said of Fordham. "But we're playing at home, and that's an advantage for us."
The Dukes are 32-3 at home the past six seasons and 53-12 since the facility opened in 1993.
The victory against Robert Morris featured the debut of Scott Knapp, a redshirt freshman quarterback from Perry Traditional Academy whose 365 yards passing was the seventh-highest total for a game in school history, most by a Duquesne freshman.
Knapp was named the MAAC rookie of the week.
Fordham quarterback Derric Daniels left the game with a knee injury in the fourth quarter of a 34-20 loss to the University of Rhode Island and is questionable for Duquesne. Sophomore Matthew Fullam replaced Daniels and completed 2 of 5 passes for 44 yards and a touchdown. He threw two interceptions.
