Steelers sign wide receiver Morgan
Five-year pro was released Sunday by Cowboys; injured Mays is waived

The Steelers moved to strengthen their depth at wide receiver yesterday when they signed veteran Quincy Morgan to a one-year contract.

Dallas released Morgan, a five-year pro, on Sunday to make room for Peerless Price, released by Atlanta.

Lee Mays was waived/injured, which means the Steelers must reach an injury settlement with him. Mays has a hamstring injury that a source said could prevent him from playing for at least a month.

Morgan (6 feet 1, 215 pounds), a second-round draft choice of the Browns from Kansas State in 2001, was involved in the trade that sent Antonio Bryant from the Cowboys to Cleveland last year.

He started 52 games in five years but slipped to No. 4 this summer in Dallas, behind second-year receiver Patrick Clayton. He likely will become No. 4 with the Steelers behind Hines Ward, Antwaan Randle El and Cedrick Wilson.

"He felt he could come in and contribute," said Eric Armstead, one of Morgan's agents. "They were looking for someone with experience."

Morgan has 155 receptions for 2,316 yards in his career with a 14.9-yard average per catch and 15 touchdowns.
