Child testifies in 2004 Altoona stabbing case
Sunday, September 04, 2005

An 11-year-old boy testified Friday that he saw a woman stabbed repeatedly by her boyfriend last year before she collapsed with the knife in her back.

The child testified in the preliminary hearing of Andre Staton, accused of stabbing 26-year-old Beverly K. Yohn of Altoona on Feb. 25, 2004.

Staton, 38, of Baltimore, arrested four days after the slaying, was ordered to stand trial for murder.

Blair County District Attorney Dave Gorman has said that he will seek the death penalty. Public defender Donald E. Speice said Staton fought extradition from Baltimore because he did not want to face the death penalty.

At the time of the murder, Staton was on parole after serving time for a stabbing in Maryland, authorities said.
