The Penguins have signed free agent defenseman Lyle Odelein, General Manager Craig Patrick announced today.

Odelein, 37, has appeared in 1,029 NHL games in 14 seasons with Montreal, New Jersey, Phoenix, Columbus, Chicago, Dallas and Florida, recording 251 points (50+201) and 2,266 penalty minutes.

He played in all 82 games with Florida in 2003-04, recording 16 points (4+12) and 88 penalty minutes and has played in at least 68 games during each of the past nine seasons.

The 6-foot, 210-pound native of Quill Lake, Saskatchewan, Canada, was drafted by the Canadiens in the seventh round (141st overall) of the 1986 Entry Draft.

Patrick also said former Penguins All-Star left wing Kevin Stevens has rejoined the club as a scout.

Stevens, 40, a member of both Penguins' Stanley Cup championship teams in 1991 & 1992, will scout both amateur and professional games for the Penguins focusing on the New England area.

"We're delighted to have Kevin back where he belongs, with the Penguins," said Patrick. "Kevin brings a passion to the game that is second to none and we're happy he will be part of our organization, contributing to our future successes."

Stevens, a former three-time NHL All-Star (1991, 1992 & 1993), holds the Penguins' single-season record with goals, assists and points by a left winger.

A native of Brockton, Mass., he appeared in 874 NHL games during his 15-year career, recording 726 points (329+397) and 1,468 penalty minutes. In 522 games with the Penguins, Stevens scored 260 goals and recorded 555 points.
