Searches in McKeesport turn up no further fetal remains
Friday, September 02, 2005

Authorities yesterday used a cadaver dog to search two properties in McKeesport for fetal remains after more than 300 fetuses were discovered Saturday in the former garage of a suspended funeral director.

Nothing was found during yesterday's hour-long search.

Allegheny County Deputy Coroner Joe Angotti led his dog, Saber, through and around the former Newman-Winston Memorial Chapel on Jenny Lind Avenue.

Angotti also took the dog around the former home of Robert B. Winston Jr. in the 1800 block of Evans Street. The remains were discovered in boxes inside a detached garage at the property after Winston's ex-wife broke a lock and walked in.

Authorities said Winston had a contract with Magee-Womens Hospital in Oakland to transport fetal remains from the hospital to a Ross crematory from 1999 to 2002.

County police were on scene yesterday along with Chief Deputy Coroner Joseph Dominick and solicitor Timothy Uhrich.
