Former Allegheny County Judge Joseph Jaffe, who went to prison for extortion and now works as a law clerk, has filed a federal lawsuit against the U.S. Bureau of Prisons because he says he didn't get his mail on time behind bars.
In a pro se suit, Jaffe and Ronald Graziano Sr., a fellow inmate at the federal prison at Fort Dix, N.J., said their mail was weeks late.
They said they filed the suit for themselves and for all other inmates at Fort Dix.
Jaffe said copies of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and The Jewish Chronicle, which he said should have taken two days to arrive, always took 10 to 14 days to get to him.
He said petitions pertaining to his case were also delayed.
Jaffe has filed a series of complaints against the prison system since he was sentenced in 2003 for attempting to solicit $13,000 from a lawyer in exchange for judicial favors.
