A man was shot in a fight outside a Homewood bar today, and an off-duty city police officer fired five shots at the assailant, who remains at large.
Police reported that two men arguing inside the 7101 Club on Frankstown Avenue were escorted out by security guards around 1:45 a.m. Outside, they continued fighting.
A 25-year-old man from Braddock apparently punched the other man, who then pulled a gun from his waistband.
The Braddock man was shot in the chest, left leg and left arm.
An off-duty city officer who was checking the rear parking lot heard the argument out front and got there in time to see the shooting. He took cover and called for backup and medics as the shooter approached him.
The officer ordered him to stop and the shooter ignored the order, according to a police press release.
The officer, who was not named, fired five shots. The man fled on North Lang Avenue, and it was not known if he was hit.
The shooting victim was expected to survive. Police did not identify him.
