Trevor Ferguson, a Pitt basketball recruit who signed a national letter of intent in April, has decided to leave school.

"He's back home and looking at other options," said Kenny Gillion, Ferguson's former AAU coach. "I think it's just one of those things where he's homesick. His family is going through some things and he wants to be home. It wasn't a problem with the coach or a player up there. He's just looking for another situation. I think he'll be staying in Florida this time."
Pitt coach Jamie Dixon said Ferguson did not enroll in classes Monday after spending the past month at home.
Ferguson and three other freshmen attended summer school, but returned home at the beginning of the month for vacation.
"We had been in contact throughout the time he was home," Dixon said. "He mentioned some things."
Dixon declined to elaborate further about the reasons behind Ferguson's decision.
Dixon has released Ferguson from his commitment, but he must still sit out this coming season under NCAA transfer rules. Gillion said prep school is an option.
Ferguson could not be reached for comment.
Pitt continued to recruit guards after Ferguson had signed. In July, Pitt signed Gilbert Brown, a high school senior who is expected to sign a binding letter of intent this fall and be at Pitt for the 2006-07 season.
Earlier this month, Mike Cook transferred to Pitt from East Carolina. He enrolled in Pitt classes Monday and will be eligible in 2006-07 as well.
They are joined by a bevy of young guards already in the system, including junior Antonio Graves, sophomores Keith Benjamin and Ronald Ramon and freshman Levance Fields.
